www.sraa.net
The Scholastic Rowing Association of America (SRAA) Board of Directors approved not renewing organizational membership with USRowing. The SRAA National Championship regatta will take place in Camden New Jersey at the Cooper River from May 23-24, 2025. SRAA will provide insurance for the regatta including all participants and volunteers. SRAA will not require USRowing Association Organizational or individual membership to participate in the SRAA National Championship regatta. More details to follow regarding regatta registration in the near term.

Re: SRAA Moves On From US Rowing
So SRAAs will not be using USRowing referees in an official capacity? Huh.
It means any SRAA teams who do not attend Youth Regionals or Youth Nationals will be free to dispense with their membership requirements. Hopefully their own schools/institutions will have sufficient insurance coverage for practices, etc.

Re: SRAA Moves On From US Rowing
Outside insurance is significantly less than that offered through USRowing, even after paying the $600 membership fee to USRowing. .
Re: SRAA Moves On From US Rowing
Waiting for the "USRowing member programs are barred from competing at non-sanctioned events" shoe to drop....
Re: SRAA Moves On From US Rowing
Junior lightweight rowing lives...!!!
Re: SRAA Moves On From US Rowing
Is Vails next?
Re: SRAA Moves On From US Rowing
Maybe NEIRA’s too?
Re: SRAA Moves On From US Rowing
Any thoughts on the rationale?
USRowing insurance is higher but not by a prohibitive amount. Next comes USRowing referre costs, which is considerable.
Is this also a factor behind a significant recent increase in costs for the Charles?
Personally, I think if I were at USRowing I would see it as a positive to spread regattas out under more than one insurance umbrella. One big claim doesn't raise everyone's premium all at once.

Re: SRAA Moves On From US Rowing
It means that SRAA won't be forced to require its member teams to comply with USRowing coaching certification rules of any kind.

Edit -
I expect Vails and NEIRAs to announce their decisions in January

Re: SRAA Moves On From US Rowing
Or any USRowing rules, policies, dictates. All of these institutions have their own infrastructure.
Repeat as needed: National Governing Body status = picks the national team. Member association status = what members OK.
Re: SRAA Moves On From US Rowing
It might be helpful to remember that rowing is not doing these things in a vacuum. USOPC has requirements for each and every National Governing Body, and yes, USRowing is an NGB, to enact certain policies for the safety of all participants: rowers, coaches, parents, officials, spectators and so forth. Safety, in this context, is an all-encompassing word.
Re: SRAA Moves On From US Rowing
Not exactly. Read abstracts of the Stevens Act. It provides for oversight and promotion of amateur athletics, but good luck finding any documentation in USRowing's NGB recognition that goes beyond picking national teams. You'd sort of think they'd have it on their webpage, re governance documents.Sarge wrote: ↑Tue Dec 10, 2024 11:51 am It might be helpful to remember that rowing is not doing these things in a vacuum. Away from USRowing, I think its the case that high schools need to comply with SafeSport for interstate competitions(?) Ie, Federal laws & regulations apply? Philly kids in New Jersey, etc.
