SmokeFest 2027. RowFest looked more like an air quality report than a regatta.
The current state of club rowing in the U.S. Too much fragmentation, not enough momentum.

The current state of RowFest 2k entries. It might not just be club rowing, but summer 2k rowing in general. Could be the economy/inflation, could be consolidation of summer racing camps and lack of geographic options. When USRowing doesn't send the dev camp or pathway camp boats, the number of entries and quality of racing drops a lot. Did the IRC entries stay to race RowFest?
Venue selection for summer racing. Let's face it, every venue is a gamble, but it's time to do the math and pick the venues that are most likely to avoid race cancelations. Some places are inconvenient or far away, but that's preferable to higher chances of losing out on races for which people have paid a thousand bucks in transportation, lodging, or trailering. The Ford Lake gambit (c'mon, last year's RowFest was the first major regatta on that course) has unfortunately run afoul of summer weather. Can we make it through one regatta without losing races?
Others have more right to mourn, but Olaf Tufte was one of the best and such a good person.

Heat, smoke, and wind: how many more ways can you cancel a regatta in a week? US Rowing is struggling to keep its Masters members afloat.
