Man, things are getting a little skunky here. And I love me some skunk. All this chitchat has stirred me from my slumber, and I feel the urge to contribute.

@MasonSon-san,

I’m not sure you’re “everybody’s least-favorite RI user” (I reckon that’d be the guy holding the smoking gun), but I’m also not sure your pro-resolute argument is quite sound. If we're lookin at old data, a similar argument could be made for Vespoli. The US’s only gold medal ever won in the lwt 4- was in ’93 world champs in a Vespi. US also had a bunch of world champs in the 8+ that earned them gold medals in the early 2000s. Why don't we see any Vespolis in the league now???

Of course, I’m giving the devil a hand here and offering him some advocacy, as I hope you were doing for the case of the Resolutes. I think most of the league and us fatties here have been transfixed by the yellow fever.

@DamnDanielDerp-san

Yeah, I like the terminology Mason used earlier. You’re a muppet. Your ranking of the hype vids based on obnoxiousness is… well, obnoxious. I’d argue that its kind of the point of a video to be a bit obnoxious and pump up the ego of the team it was intended for… i.e. the coined term, “hype”. You’re just a little salty that your own old squad isn’t being repped very well on the interwebs. You don’t like seeing other teams elevating themselves higher than yours ever was, and so you cope with this by chirping them out. If it wasn’t for your insecurity, you probably would have gone ahead and attempted to rank the videos based on how good they are, not how bad they are. A little childish, a little obnoxious, and a little derpish. But hey, I love the chirp game.

That being said, I’d agree with you that the latest high-tech Lions video is a little fcuk much. Too many fancy shots and too little rowing – show me a video that’s obnoxious because of its confident showcasing of some saucy rowing, not some national geographic drone nature footage. Put that fancy equipment to better use.

Concerning one's self with whether or not "every sprints team finds me hilarious (and informative) except for princeton" is a game for cod ends. First of all, you probably need to know someone on a sprints team to make that call. Second of all, reading crap like: "I really think this is going to be an EPIC race at sprints... both the heats and the final. I think if the final is rowed the way a lot of olympic middle distance finals are run (usually relatively conservative pace for a while with a fast closing 30-50%)...If the race is run and nobody goes out for the lead (especially P-P-N-C) Yale/Harvard/Cornell's base pace/ closing speed will be too great for any of those other 3-4 crews to overcome...see you boys in Worcester" (puppet, 2017) is an insult to the anonymous narps out there who are checking the boards hoping to read something not completely obvious to Chris Kerber's goose poop eating dogs. I actually love those dogs. [edit] What noob doesn't understand pacing or the fact that the league has been competitive this year? Lastly, my teammates are itching to see more captions.

It's a sad day when the NEIRA thread shows more civility and maturity than this thread. C'mon, Mason-san, edit that post a bit

I can't contest the point about the "olympic effect"

Proliferation of the D hull following the 2000 olympics and the wide-spread use of Hudson following 2004 (and to some extent, 2008). I think the proliferation of resolutes (and by extension, the E hull) is a little different though.

@lt.wolf, you're an expert in this field, so correct me if I'm wrong... but resolute was the first company to offer a "short hull" ..i.e. something a little "stouter" than the standard long-and-thin hull (oversimplifying of course, but the resolute hull is a lot shorter vs the corresponding hull)....The D-hull in 'M' is 57'9" feet while the comparable resolute hull is 53'4" or 54'1" ... substantially shorter... My impression has always been that this (Resolute) was the first massive departure from the "longer, narrower" hulls, and that was the primary reason for its popularity (the novelty). Then, the E hull's popularity was largely due to the fact that it represented the first "short hull alternative" to the resolute.

As other users have pointed out, the resolutes have had a ton of success at the heavy/light elite college level, not gonna dispute that either. I want to know (genuinely, and i'm not mocking), why no national teams are rowing the Resolute? My point is that while it's a solid durable hull, surely well-financed national teams have access to demo these, and probably have... if they were superior, I think our team (or another) would row them... (ex: Canada m4- rowed a VHP this past year)... Maybe resolute is a solid hull for a college boat, I'm merely arguing that there's likely superior equipment opportunities out there at a comparable price.

@MasonSon and whoever else is on the Princeton team, I'll take it easy on you guys. This board is devolving into trash-talking with language I don't understand and don't care to try. If you have a problem with my analysis of Marty Crotty's winning-ness or Princeton's perennial fade over the course of the racing season, PM me and we can talk more about it (I'd genuinely like that). If you want to justify (or explain to me) why you think it's somehow unjustified on this board, you can go for that, too (that's what the board is for, right)?

Apologies for the provocative "obnoxiousness poll" and "caption contest" -- plz accept the olive branch.

Are Resolute eights sectional? If I recall, they're not, and eights that are going to be rowed at the WC need to be sectional. No national team is going to buy a boat they can't race at Worlds

@jrd great point... no clue if they're even sectional... anybody know?

If they aren't, does anyone know why not? Does that imply they're not even catering to the national team market?

Daniel-san,

I personally accept your olive branch. Re: Your P150 stats 1) Sure there was a pretty basic long term trend 2) HOTC, PC stats are barely relevant - many teams don't go to either event and there are so many extraneous variables in that format of racing and they should be pretty obvious (I suspect that was just your rage coming out though) 3a) This is somewhat anecdotal, but look at Charlie's results the year after Harry passed vs Marty when Greg Hughes moved on to the heavies - its hard to come into a team that has been winning and get them to buy into your philosophy (especially with returning athletes) - Marty was able to get a result in that first year and its noteworthy. 3b) Likewise, Look at Boyce's results the year after the dutch-rudder moved on - new coach comes into a team that has been losing and the mood/results explode (post-rudder effect if you will) 4) You didn't note the trend from the last 4 seasons of sprints/IRA which demonstrates an upward shift contrary to your long-term analysis.

Moving along, I only retorted because I thought the obnoxiousness index was an absolute joke and I was bored so I ripped into you. Same motivation for my Delaware/resolute/water bottle carrier response. Same motivation for Marty/Princeton - it was low hanging fruit. To that point, I have no affiliation with Princeton. I like watching them lose as does anyone else who is not from Princeton, I was hoping you were going to continue spending your lunch breaks pulling up more damning "raw data" - damndaniel you just strolled right into that one.

Don't turn your back on trash-talk/sledging daniel-san you derp. Its such a beautiful part of the game.

Enjoy your lunch, truly.

Quickly

I do believe you have to have a sectional hull to race on the international level. I hear Resolute has a few sectionals out there but I have not seen any of them, it is not that hard to sectionalize and eight but it could be a bit more tricky with a full carbon hull.. I know the USA lightweights tried a Resolute a few years ago before heading to Henley but if I misremember correctly the rigging and feel from going to a long boat to a short boat thru them off a bit so they moved on from it. It can be a solid racing boat if you have the stronger ergs racing in the hull, you also have to row it exceptionally well especially at the front end. Once you get that son of a bitch up and going at speed you have to keep it there, rowing higher and harder than most on the course. The shorter boat will die at the finish and quickly if you don't keep it up and out of the water, the BU light women, Brown women (and Brown men of a few years ago ) are able to move the boat exceptionally well with really good front end connection. It is a sleek looking black durable boat with what I feel is a certain rowing style needed for performance.

The Vespoli E hull was the answer to the Rez, after they spent years disparaging the shorter boat to all. (Remember when they did that to wing rigging as well). In my eyes the E hull was one ugly looking boat, the bow and stern look just so off out on the course. The E hull has died in value over the years, it is not worth much on the resale value since vespoli went back to the longer hull (VHP) . I do believe Vespoli is figuring out the compartment and lengths of the VHP boat, it is just taking time and still seems off. Hard to really nail it down when the boat scanned to obtain the VHP design was an Empacher, I am not sure of the size they scanned but they did scan an Empacher for the base shape. Then they sort of did their own things when it came to the bow and stern of the boat. If you see the CAN team show up in a VHP 4- again that will be baffling.

Dont get too caught up in the wet sanding idea as most folks don't keep their boats clean enough to reap the benefits of the wet sanding, and I mean really clean. If wet sanding were such a big advantage every National team crew would be wet sanding their hulls. Instead those boats are painted and really polished up.

As I said, row what work for you and your program, just pay your assistants the cost of one of those Rez's as well , they are worth it (the assistants ) it not more.

Last thing , there are a lot of boats on the market that last a long time, just take care of your equipment and it will last.

Can it be argued that the approach to rowing an E Hull would be the same as the Rez? High rate to keep it up out of the water with good front end connection?

Every one has copied an Empacher/Karlish-->> Filippi, Hudson,Pocock, Vespoli (3 times = A hull, B hull and VHP), janousek/stampfli, Swift, Dirigo , Burgashell, Sykes, builder in Argentina.
