Not sure if anyone has seen these things but there are a couple of people down our way that have a rowing unit strapped to a paddle board. It looks slow and heavy but until last weekend I had not tried one.
Our club was offered one of these units called a surf scull complete with paddle board. Not wanting to hurt any feelings we accepted it and now having the dubious privalage of ownership. We found a strap to replace the missing one and set it all up and had a go. For 30 minutes various club members blasted up and down the river on this thing making the most awful wash and the general opinion was wtf.
The rig is too high, it has a sliding rigger which is odd but nothing more, the thing is noisy as hell and although pretty well made it gave the impression it was about to fall apart.
Any one else rowed one of these things.
Who invented them and why?

Re: SUP Rowing kits
Gary Piantedosi raced one earlier in the fall and it just looked clunky and awkward and heavy. All I could think of was "Just row a zephyr". I guess I don't see the advantage.
Re: SUP Rowing kits
It seems like there has been somewhat of a Stand Up Paddling fad being pushed around my club, I am guessing it might be done as a cheap way to get more use out of equipment you already own.
