So is this Filippi deal with US Rowing a result of this RFQ? Did they give US Rowing everything they were asking for?

Hudson had put together a pretty good offer to match , different details but along the same lines from what I am told.

Outside of this deal there have been rumors in the boatyards that Filippi compensates directors from other countries for utilizing their hulls. Nothing proven just gossip. If you can earn it than go with it I guess.

***edit , there is also element that the Italian government subsidizes exported boats. So these are effectively “free”

Maybe US athletes can leverage this to get paid by boat companies of their choice.

It also intrigued me that Emma Twigg who was paid by Filippi in the past made the switch and then won gold in an Empacher. We know Mahe was compensated well.

Its a big enough deal that Filippi USA brought back in Fabio Selvig.

It always seemed wrong to me he was elsewhere

No hating on Fabio from me , he and I go way back.

The only way that this would have been economically feasible for any boatbuilder was by having a back-end bailout. The fact that Filippi won out is really no surprise.

Results confirm Filippi is already down

Kohler, Empacher, medal contender
Davison, Hudson
CRC, Hudson
Texas Performance, Empacher, with a smattering of Filippi
Sechser and Reckford, Hudson, medal contender

Service from Filippi in the states is fourth best at most.

Hudson has a few other “clubs” on the books as well.

This one will be slippery one to navigate as US Rowing can’t tell clubs what to use. Having their own fleets at the camps will be an advantage but tough to manage.

I think Sykes will hang around for some of the clubs and jrs because they are priced so low. Resolute?...How many hulls did they sell in advance of this season?
