If "set" is keeping your blades from touching the water on the recovery then this is the advice I give new scullers. If you start in an elite racing single it will take about three months of sculling, a half hour per day, at least three days per week before you will be able to apply full power and get a good workout and it will take you the rest of your life to learn to keep your blades off the water, consistently, on the recovery or to "set" your boat regardless of which brand of elite 1x you are rowing. I have never found one brand any easier than another. It takes a lot of self discipline and that is why, IMHO, most masters scullers including some of the very best, never get it done and pretty much give up on it. Again, IMHO, no matter how much time you spend in a wherry you start from ground zero when you get in an elite 1x.
I had Cardiac Catheter Ablation ‘20 I was totally asymptomatic, (Apple Watch alerted me) persistent, Atrial Flutter and, post Ablation, I was in persistent sinus rhythm until July 1, ‘24.
Now am in Afib 24/7.

No experience with the boat personally. But I have friends who coach and have had Sykes in the boathouse. They love the shell. Most agree they don't hold up well to "club" use, and get soft rather quickly. If that's what you do, go check the boat out first if you can. If it belonged to just one guy and he's the only one who rowed it. Jump on it.
