Week 4: If No One Else Will Do It Edition
Re: Week 4: If No One Else Will Do It Edition
My mistake , looks like that was the open men’s race in the live feed.
That’s good as I had Columbia lights picked!

Kind of a weird day of racing, all around. Seems like the league is tighter than usual?
Harvard by 8 over Dartmouth by 1 over Tech
Navy by 6.5 over Georgetown
Princeton by 3 over Cornell
Columbia by an unknown margin over Yale by an unknown margin over Penn
My only thought: let's all point and laugh at Cornell being further off Harvard than Dartmouth *and* MIT. Seriously, they must've crabbed or something, right?

Mercyhurst over Dartmouth in Hanover!
Mercyhurst 5:32.25
Dartmouth 5:35.87
Mercyhurst 5:32.25
Dartmouth 5:35.87
Re: Week 4: If No One Else Will Do It Edition
Man, those are some fast times. Woof... Lol, so is Hurst like 4 seconds off Harvard then? I guess we should've paid closer attention when they were ~5 seconds off Cornell's time at Cayuga Duals. Can probably go ahead and pencil 'em in for the IRA spot from Vails.rowSU wrote:Mercyhurst over Dartmouth in Hanover!

Also, apparently MIT and Fairfield raced on the Charles. MIT 6:35, Fairfield 6:56. Shrug.

Makes me think of Canada last cycle, better physiology, worse results. A HS program was posting their switch to lactate training a few years back as well. Went from finals at youths to not qualifying while having better erg scores. Seems like there is a knack to getting the mix right that is more complicated than just maintaining training zones.

Video from Sunday’s race up in Hanover, looked like frigid conditions.

If they achieved better erg scores then they accomplished their training plan goals.Almostflipped wrote:Makes me think of Canada last cycle, better physiology, worse results. Not saying that they are doing everything right, but it seems unfair to blame lack of success on a training plan that is seemingly doing its job.

assuming "erg scores" = 2k test scores.

Yeah, correlating better physiology with slower race times seems like a non-starter. Good for Dartmouth to get stronger...now they just have to focus on the water aspect. If they clean it up in time for IRAs, maybe the haters will quiet down.
Re: Week 4: If No One Else Will Do It Edition
On a different note - just watched the stream of the Yale/Columbia/Penn race. Interestingly, Yale and Columbia were both close to even up to ~800 in, both with a length and a half of open on Penn. Columbia threw a punch and moved out, eventually building to two lengths of open by the end. Yale kept sliding back the rest of the way - camera didn't show so I couldn't tell if Penn picked it up or Yale struggled. Looked like they tried to get out and match Columbia's speed and flamed out. If they'd raced it a little smarter they might've been a bit closer, but that's no way to live...
