Hi, Bayrower, since you have both, you are the right person to ask:
Which boat do you think is faster, and why? How do they handle different water conditions?

No doubt Carl Douglas boats beat Fluid in beauty contests hands down, but speed?

I am most curious, because I just sold my Fluid (that I actually *really* liked!) in favor of keeping a Van Dusen Advantage.

best regards
Sorry - was gone for a while.
I am going to sell a fluid to keep the CD.
I like the CD better in more difficult conditions, I think the fluid might set a bit better, but given I will never be the fastest, I just feel better all around about the CD (the fluid is lighter)

Having said that, I really like my fluid (I had 4). It's just the fittings etc are much cheaper and harder to adjust. The CD is a masterpiece. Even the impeller is built into the skeg. You can adjust the stretchers in boat. I didn't need to worry about always tightening the stretchers as the wing it would come off. Etc.

How can a thread about Carl Douglas go so long without a reference to Kung fu fighting?

Very nice looking boats. Having built my own kayak, I appreciate the finished product that can be used on the water.

I like the way Levator boats look too.

I really hope Carl's shop survived the latest flood with minimal damage.
Any news on that?

He was flooded to a depth of about 18cm at one stage. Had to close it all down for a while. I believe he's back at it again now.
