International acceptances have been announced. I’ve heard some murmurs about Canadians opting out due to the current political climate. Hopefully, with time and a shift in perspective, they’ll reconsider.

Re: HOCR 2025
Can't blame anyone for not wanting their phones to be seized and searched, risking having entry barred for political opinions. That's a lot of money spent on entry fees, equipment, and lodging flushed down the drain if some grouchy CBP/TSA contractor decides someone doesn't look like they deserve to enter for superficial reasons.
I wonder how long it will be until they start searching phones of US citizens returning from abroad.

over the past 10-12 years i have found it increasingly easy to:ROWBOTTOM wrote: ↑Sat May 03, 2025 6:06 pm Coaching tips, re CBP phone hygiene

1) backup/erase
2) quick setup to generic out-of-the-box condition for security
3) erase & restore backup @ destination
it’s probably 3 minutes to erase/basic setup on the front end & 10 minutes to restore backup
i don’t use social media, so have no credentials they can try to extort.
i actually first did this to make sure my work apps/documents couldn’t be accessed (if they asked for pin codes, fingerprint, etc) but found it so simple i use it by default.

FYI data is still recoverable on your device until it has been overwritten.
Re: HOCR 2025
While nothing short of physical destruction should be trusted completely, to my knowledge, Apple’s iOS encrypts all user data & erasing a phone/tablet securely erases (zeros out) the encryption keys rendering the data itself inaccessible.socalstroke wrote: ↑Sun May 04, 2025 5:59 pm FYI data is still recoverable on your device until it has been overwritten.
Personally i have used secure erasing (writing over ever bit multiple times) since the advent of solid state drives. At work we have always done it - sometimes taking weeks to securely erase an array before decommissioning it.
But, yes, generally it should be thought that simply deleting something does not make it disappear from the underlying hardware.
