James Cracknell standing for Parliament

James Cracknell has been selected as a Conservative Party candidate for the next General Election for a seat in Colchester Essex. Given the state of the Conservative Party at the moment this seems a strange decision (even if the seat is currently held by the Conservatives). As someone has wryly pointed out - expect it to be like the M4- final in Tokyo….starting off with high expectations before veering sharply to the right and suffering an embarrassing defeat!

Curious as to whether he's shown inclination for political office in the past.

Yes, he did stand for election to the European Parliament in 2014 as Conservative candidate for the South West of England.
There’s a fair amount of criticism about his selection as he has zero links to his prospective constituency.

Not sure what you guys call 'em over in the UK, but we call that kind of politician a "carpetbagger" here.

Watching rowers do politics is a lot like watching them play basketball.
