I wasn’t so concerned about the venue but the dates, normally a mid August event now end of July.

If I were to guess , maybe with Indianapolis only three hours away from Ohio they saw it as a savings on time and resources.

I assume equipment will become an issue for clubs that share, but that is not a US rowing issue.

"Summer nationals and masters nationals have traditionally been several weeks apart, forcing many teams to choose one regatta, delaying masters' transition to head race training, and impacting our ability to deliver a great experience across both events. The timing and location of these regattas will allow clubs to more readily attend both events. "

A staff running straight for two weeks for ten plus hours a day,…whoop whoop. Did US Rowing get Red Bull as a sponsor ?

Wait, so putting two regattas back to back won't force many teams to choose one regatta? Or maybe it makes the choice more stark: race 2k or race 1k -- not sure it's "easy" for teams to do both. Maybe the trailer drivers will get a four day forced vacation in the midwest. The rest of us have to take a lot of PTO or else a very short work week between the two regattas.

It's meant to accommodate clubs with separate juniors and masters teams but using shared equipment. The teams go to each regatta separately, but the trailer doesn't have to travel as much.

If it rubs you the wrong way, good. Change is meant to be thought provoking. "Same $h!t, new year" wasn't making things any better.

Nah, it's just stupid. Equipment's different enough; you need a perfect overlap unless you want to constrain one team's participation based on another's. And clubs tend to share trailers with other clubs (being good neighbors, making costs work, etc.) -- guess their boats have to be perfectly shared unless they have supplemental trailering options. But maybe the clubs with the biggest juniors presence at summer natls are not the same clubs with a strong masters presence. Could be a no-impact at best. I don't really see a substantial positive impact.

There should be enough USRowing staff to not force the entirety of summer natls regatta staff to run masters natls the next week...I think. Not great for them if the same ppl are running both regattas.

I don't hate it. I'm just bored of seeing USRowing try things for which I don't see much justification. But please, continue to project your own premature conclusions about other people's thoughts so that you can dunk on them. Maybe others don't find it as annoying as I do.

I forgot to mention that it will be really nice for masters rowers to have a longer break between masters natls and HOCR/head race season. Between recovery from masters, head race lineup selection, and major fall regattas, there wasn't a lot of time for development/technical refinement this year. And venues will still have their junior rower pool of volunteers instead of losing them to the beginning of school during mid-August weeks. It's just going to be rough for those of us who attend both summer natls and masters natls.

I know my own regatta committee at RBC is not too happy with the change as Masters is now on the same weekend we host our annual regatta, the Cromwell Cup , one of our biggest fundraising events.

Neverending complaints resulted in change. Zoinks!

USRowing has executed one of the top rules of marketing. If you don't like what is being said, change the conversation.

Well done!
