Most efficient Rig

Post by taylste »

If you could only do one of two fundamental rig changes to try and generate more boat speed would you:

1. Move the feet into the stern (and adjust inboard, length and span, accordingly, to maintain the same load). The idea is to get more of the stroke in front of the pin.

2. Change to load without moving the feet.

The key difference is the placement of the feet and the resulting position of the stroke relative to the pin. I would think one would want to be fore of the pin as far one could tolerate (over the race distance). I think this would be especially true with the Fat2 which is supposedly more efficient the first 1/3rd of the stroke.

of your two choices 1. is on the right track.

any blade is more efficient in the first 1/3 versus middle or last, but a larger blade/shorter oar combination will, if rowed well, accentuate it.

I've found success with both
But there are drawbacks to each too.
You're proportions (leg length, wing span, torso, etc) may play a factor in which route you take as well.
Feel free to pm me regarding pros & cons of each.
training is the opposite of hoping

Surely which changes are best depends on your starting point. If moving the feet to stern were a good thing without reference to where you are moving from, everyone should set up as far forward as the equipment permits.
