There's plenty in Plovdiv.
But not plenty of competition.

I felt like WC1 used to be the empty one and WC2 was the full one, not sure what changed unless it's just a dates thing?

As I say in my WC2 preview….the normal state of affairs is topsy-turvy this season

It's more to do with the timing of this year's European championships I think. But it does seem strange if the Australians are still over here, and presumably they are going to Lucerne, not to also send a team to Plovdiv.

It could be a timing issue, Euros vs WC1 and WC2. We know the European teams value the Euros a bit more.

For many years World Rowing has run 3 world cup regattas. Even before the reintroduction of the European Championship, only two of these could have been said to have been actively supported by member federations. Could someone enlighten me or at least postulate a theory why they continue to run 4 major regattas outside the World Champs, when there is clearly the appetite for only 3?

Because racing is fun?
Because it is financially viable?

Not sure about the finances, but i will almost always be on the side of more racing from the internationals.

The whole World Cup schedule is undergoing review at the moment and there may well be qualification requirements for championship regattas in future. I think there will be further details at this year's Congress

I am mildly excited to hear the outcome - there are many options for making more of the racing season.

You will see that it's possible that races at WC3 in 2028 will be over 1.5k.

Thank you!

Interesting to think of WC3 to be a 1500 meter Olympic test. FOQR (so all Oly qualifications) still stay 2000 meter regardless of what they decide for WC3.

I am happy to hear the right questions and ideas are being talked about.
