That may be something coaches want but the logistics involved in moving the location at this point are significant. Organizers would have to come up with a new satellite village for the athletes. I don't see this happening.

At a very minimum they need to reexamine the tidal movements and schedule the races appropriately. This should include adding at least a day of racing to reduce the number of races each day during the slack tide window.

The Olympics is controlled by TV and I can imagine network executives saying 'hey it is an outdoor sport. The tides are just part of it. We will schedule the races when it fits us best.'

World Rowing should never have signed off on this location. Too eager to please.

The race schedule has already been published to fit the races in around the times of slack water and also with the reduction in the programme caused by no repechages there are already very few races per day.

None that i know of.
And Junior Worlds for 2027 haven't been announced yet - many times they are held at the next Olympic venue.

But rowing got cut to 1500 meters rather than go to a 2000 meter course 30? miles away.
And softball is (still?) scheduled to take place in Oklahoma. LA28 :D
The 2027 WRU19 championships will be over 2k and not in Los Angeles.

So that would pretty much confirm no test worlds-level events at the venue before the Olympics?

I haven't heard of any such test events, much less any willing to shorten their lengths.

As I understand it there will be no World Rowing test events at Long Beach, and the first time any international crews will race over 1500m will be the opening heats at the Games. Utterly ridiculous

How any professional involved with the IOC/FISA/World Rowing could have given a stamp of approval to any of this is mindboggling.

Makes you wonder if anyone actually cares about the sport or if they're lining their pockets/interests' pockets.

I think the calculus was that one regatta, even if it is the most important regatta of a single quadrennium, could make a compromise and move on. I'm not agreeing with this, but the idea was probably something along the lines of, "they'll live. We have to keep rowing near the other sports."

It’s a shite compromise and I would love to see who signed off on it.

Now Brisbane is flirting with a lesser offering too.

One of the quotes from and article on Brisbane was something along the lines of "I've never seen the rowing community so united on one issue" and I thought about how it's the same case here for 2028. Least they have FISA's support over there...

World Rowing under the leadership of Jean-Christophe Rolland has made concession after concession in an attempt to please the IOC. 1500m. Tidal. No test event. It’s ridiculous, and now the Brisbane course is going to infested with crocodiles and have a current. Two Olympics in a rowing will be compromised, and it’s going to be hard to part that genie back in the bottle.

From Row2k:
LA28 Schedule Released: Rowing to Take Place on Six-Minute Centers at Slack Tides
https://www.row2k.com/features/6801/la2 ... ack-tides/

Good Luck. Having trained, raced and coached crews at LB, I can attest there is no true slack tide in at least the first 700M. The last part of the course may be pretty good, but at 500M some water from around the island and the channel opposite moves into or out from the course even at slack tide. It's a fluid for Pete's sake. Somebody who misses out on a medal or final by a second or two is going to have a fit!
