Man arrested for impersonating an officer

Post by fatsculler »

A man has been arrested for impersonating a Rear-Admiral and attending a remembrance service in Wales. Turns out Jon Carley is the former head of Rowing at Shiplake College and also claims to have spent 2 years at Harvard, winning the HOCR during his time there (although apparently his name doesn’t appear in the Harvard Register). Sounds like an individual who struggles with reality

Didn't Prince Harry show up to an event dressed as a Nazi General once?

At a costume party, it's fine, but being from a largely military family, I can say how demeaning and troubling it is to have someone, for reasons of selfish aggrandizement, take on the mantle of service, risk and great responsibility that a military officer or enlisted person does. It's more than being out of touch with reality. It's a kind of theft of the merit these men and women have earned.

In the UK we call them “Walts” (Walter Mitty), in the US you refer to it as Stolen Valour
