I feel like many folks from the Pacific Palisades area will have the means to rebuild should they choose to do so. I'm not sure that's the case for the Altadena residents who lost their houses. We may see some quasi-predatory land grab offers a la Lahaina in the near future, and those who cannot afford to rebuild will take those offers. (But who will want to own a home in a California fire zone after the home/fire insurance prices go nuts?)

Fingers crossed for the firefighters, who will have to deal with resurgent winds tomorrow and Tuesday.

I am feeling the increase in insurance premiums, and my community is relatively safe. Will be interesting to see if policies are written at all for the Palisades/Malibu area. A lot of money there but also folks who have lived there for 50-60 years. The latter will have trouble rebuilding.

BU had to cancel their January training camp with Orange Coast due to the fires.

Did they cancel the entire thing or just a portion? OC had the winds but luckily no fire/smoke.

They cancelled the entire trip. I believe it was more about traveling than about the venue.

Have any tests taken place regarding the tides on the race course yet?

I have seen firsthand how the water sloshes around the Marine Stadium during tidal movements. Who pushed for - and who signed off on - this location?

Are the test results available anywhere?

Because the new moon arrives July 1 in time for the finals. This is when the tidal movements will be at their strongest. High tide + 6.5 feet and low tide - 1.5 feet.

Cut & Pasted from Gemini:
Inside the Long Beach Marine Stadium, water movement on July 21 and 22, 2028, will be characterized by significant "flushing" and higher-than-average current velocities due to the New Moon on July 21. Because the Marine Stadium is a narrow, man-made channel connected to Alamitos Bay, its water movement is almost entirely driven by the tidal prism—the volume of water that must push in and out through the entrance to match the ocean's tide levels.

Tidal Flow & Velocity (July 21–22, 2028) During this window, the gravitational pull of the New Moon creates Spring Tides, resulting in more extreme highs and lows. Morning Ebb (Outflow): You can expect a strong outgoing current in the early to mid-mornings. With low tides predicted to hit roughly -0.31 ft around 5:43 AM on July 21, the water will be pulling rapidly toward Alamitos Bay and the ocean. Late Morning Flood (Inflow): As the tide turns after the morning low, water will rush back into the stadium to reach a high of roughly 3.92 ft by noon.

Evening Surge: The most powerful movement will likely occur between the afternoon low (5:17 PM) and the late-night high (11:32 PM), as the water level climbs nearly 4.5 feet in just six hours. Water

Behavior Inside the Stadium Feature Expected Conditions Current Strength Higher than normal. The "Spring Tide" range means more water volume is moving through the channel than during a typical week. Water Clarity Potentially lower during the peak of the ebb (outgoing) tide as sediment from the shallow upper ends of the stadium and the Los Cerritos Wetlands is pulled through. Surface Conditions Generally remains "flat" compared to the open ocean, but you may notice small "tide rips" or swirls near the entrance where the stadium meets the Davies Launch Ramp area.

Special Consideration: The Colorado Lagoon Connection By 2028, the Colorado Lagoon Open Channel Project is expected to be fully functional. This project replaces the old underground culverts with an open tidal channel at the north end of the Marine Stadium (near Elliot St). Increased Circulation: This new connection will likely increase the total volume of water moving through the north end of the stadium.
Directional Flow: You may notice a more distinct "river-like" flow at the very top of the stadium as water moves between the stadium and the Lagoon.
Summary for Boaters/Rowers: On these specific dates, expect the strongest currents of the month. If you are rowing or paddling, "holding water" or stationary drills will be more difficult during the mid-tide cycles when the water is moving at its peak velocity.

None that i know of.
And Junior Worlds for 2027 haven't been announced yet - many times they are held at the next Olympic venue.

But rowing got cut to 1500 meters rather than go to a 2000 meter course 30? miles away.
And softball is (still?) scheduled to take place in Oklahoma. LA28 :D

The tests would be worthless with the Colorado Lagoon Connection coming online since they were last done anyway.

I honestly don't think the IOC or FISA care enough to test anything. Let LA do its thing, hope for improved viewership ratings for rowing, etc.

All the qualification racing is still 2000 meters, so quadrennial training really remains unchanged. Maybe some specific 1500 meter training will happen after qualification, but it wouldn't be the bulk of the quadrennial.

More from Gemini:

During the 2028 Olympic rowing races at the Marine Stadium in Long Beach, the tidal movements will be unusually strong due to a New Moon on July 21. This alignment creates "spring tides," which result in the most significant water displacement of the month.

Tidal Impact on Race Sessions
Olympic rowing events are scheduled for July 15–22, 2028. Because the Marine Stadium is a narrow tidal channel, the volume of water moving in and out must pass through a single entrance, creating a "river-like" effect that athletes must navigate.

Finals (July 21–22): The most intense water movement will occur during the medal rounds. On July 21, the tide will be flooding (moving into the stadium) for most of the morning session.

Peak Velocity: The strongest current is expected between 8:30 AM and 10:30 AM as the tide rushes in to meet the midday high. Rowers in earlier heats or warm-ups will experience the maximum pull.

The races take place beween110am and 11:50am on July 20 and 21. This is going to be a disaster because the tide "crosses" the course like in San Diego.
