HOT AND NOT They Be Winning

Post by lt.wolf »

HOT
Stanford Lightweight Women's Varsity Eight
Columbia Lightweight Mens's Varsity Eight
Yale Varsity Mens Eight
***All the above had the lead by 300 into the race and walked away
Those who got the lower boats over to race at Carnegie , coordinators , volunteers, referees , everyone
USRowing Referees Ron Chen and Sam Chang to refereed the relocation
The young German sculler Zeidler leading the mens single race for a good bit, then Synek took over.
POL light mens double ousting the favorite IRL light 2x
CAN women's pair winning WC1
NED claiming 10 medals at WC1
GB men's 4x winning gold at WC1

NOT
Tell me about the first half of that course on Sunday
Its only World Cup 1, no Olympics or Worlds medals handed out yet no matter what fats tells you ....wink
UW , losing momentum in the first few strokes. Not on them, just the circumstances
Claiming a " title" for a race that did not take place.
Felice Mueller not being able to race at WC1 .
Only 2 light mens quads at WC1 and 0 entries in the womens light 4x
GB 5th in the mens 4 at WC1
The gap in time from when the RED light went on at the start at the IRAs to when the starting commands were given. WAY TOO LONG. Given the conditions should not have been that long.

Hot Take
Can we now call Gladstone the greatest college men's rowing coach ? Don't tell the Crimson

As always feel free to add your own .

HOT
BEL out-sprinting IRL in the LM2x, taking 2nd place by a hundredth of a second. Their last 200 meters to close was impressive.

HOT:
The Netherlands came, saw and conquered...only the 4th country to win 6 or more gold medals at a World Cup

Gotta agree about the new German wunderkind in the M1X...a big future ahead for the lad

Another German was pretty tasty in the single...Jason Osborne in the LM1X....maybe Jurgen could persuade him to use his UK citizenship and row for GB

The GB sculling squad is ridiculously strong at the moment and with Pete Lambert and possibly Charlie Cousins to return in 2019 it's getting even better.

Puspure in the W1X.....best performance ever by an Irish W1X

Camilla Hadland doing a great job as the guest commentator for World Rowing...one day it'll be me!

Germany v GB M8....round 1 to the Germans but this rivalry is going to run and run

IRA's...crappy conditions but a storming race from Yale (with just the 5 Brits on-board...I'm claiming that as a GB win  )

Ratzeburg Regatta - Brookes go 1,2,3 two days running including a 5:29.06...the fastest ever time by a GB M8 outside of the National Team. The squad now have the fastest ever times in the M8 and M4- for a non-squad crew.

St Paul's School - one of the finest schoolboy crews I've ever seen (up there with the Eton crew of 2009-10) They won the National School's by 20 seconds and then last weekend won Open 8's at the Metropolitan Regatta (in 5:50) beating Thames Rowing Club who are favourites for the Thames Cup. 7 of these guys are headed to the US (Harvard heavies and lights, Princeton, Cal & Yale)

The Isle of Man TT race...possibly the most insane motor race in the world. These riders race on public roads around the Isle of Man....a lap is 37 miles and each race is 6 laps...the top riders average over 130mph....think about it....37 miles averaging 130mph on public roads!!! insane (check out this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sOZwHD7nrAY - this isn't speeded up!

NOT:
For those watching the GB commentary....it's time for Herbert and Cracknell to step aside....during the M8 race Cracknell said "the German 5 man needs a slap" and Herbert reckoned the Croatians were the reigning Olympic champions in the pair!

IRA's disrupted by conditions

IRA's live streaming...almost as bad as the weather

Illness and injuries preventing GB women's sculling team from racing in Belgrade (except for the W1X)

Hearing that neither UW or Yale will be bringing their Varsity to Henley for a showdown with Brookes

Why wasn’t Felice Mueller allowed to race the W1X?

"Hearing that neither UW or Yale will be bringing their Varsity to Henley for a showdown with Brookes"

lol. UW already sent them back across the pond with an "L" . Yale would easily win by open water, GB Universities can't handle the Grand Finalist of the IRAs

Wolf that’s nearly as deluded as me saying GB will win the W8 World Championships! I reckon Brookes would’ve comfortably medalled at IRA’s

Too many other things going on and too little preparation. Lets face it, all Herbert is ever remembered for is the "If not now, when" and I am sure I have seen an interview where Jonny and Greg suggest they didnt hear it any how. That was a 2- with a passenger.

Fats.....they may have scraped a bronze. Remember UW got a length on Brookes inside 400 meter and Yale took a half off Washington in the same distance or less.

And there was 13 seconds separating the IRA Grand Finalists. 4.5 seconds between silver & bronze.
I think Brookes has shown they can handle the IRA Grand Finals...

I always love hearing the MotoGP riders (recently Valentino, Cal) that have competed in the TT talk about the winners with astonishment. I think Cal had some comment about keeping to push bikes vs motorbikes on the Isle of Man...
