U15s have the option to "race up" if the coach/family/kids want to go for it.

Excellent observation. It might be the equipment, as well as the influence of high-impulse theory in the 60's. Boats that weighed 300 pounds, propelled by heavy tree-limb Macon blades were factors. What matters most is the pitch you are looking for and then testing it while rowing. No matter how accurately you set the gauge, you may be off by +/- one or even more degrees. They must be. They are being marketed like drugs. There is no notice of them on either the Croker USA and Croker AUS websites. Like, you have to know a guy and maybe he'll fix you up .. for the right price.
