Re: Coaching Carousel 2026
https://sacredheartpioneers.com/news/2026/6/1/general-sacred-heart-university-to-launch-varsity-mens-rowing-team Is the rowing push coming from athletics or admissions? Almost certainly admissions. That post says they’re targeting 60 athletes. At ~65k a year, it doesn’t take that many athletes to p...

Re: 2026 Season
IRA heats are available
H1: Harvard - Penn - Cornell - Georgetown - Columbia
H2: Princeton - Dartmouth - MIT - Yale - Navy
The H2 race for 2nd and 3rd among D/M/Y is by far the most interesting race here, imo. One pretty good crew will be on the outside looking in

Re: Georgetown with agreement to build dedicated boathouse
Not to be a downer, but I was in DC in the late 80s early 90s and Georgetown had plans that were approved by various boards/commissions and both were squashed by the community as soon as it was opened up for feedback. I was amazed at the number of people who came out of the woodwork opposing it, wi...

Georgetown with agreement to build dedicated boathouse
Some cool news - Georgetown reached an agreement with the National Park Service and D.C. to swap around parcels on the Potomac to finally be able to build a dedicated campus-adjacent boathouse. https://guhoyas.com/story.aspx?filename=mens-rowing-georgetown-university-national-park-service-and-distri...

Marty Crotty is stepping down. https://goprincetontigers.com/news/2025/6/3/mens-rowing-lightweight-marty-crotty-steps-down-as-mens-lightweight-rowing-head-coach So the optimal candidate here has to be Nase right? Princeton alum, olympian, successful at C150, possible friction with Cornell admin ove...

Re: 2025 Season
That was probably the best IRA final in years, right? New medalists, Harvard setting up a dynasty, love it. When did MIT last medal in an 8 at IRA? I don’t know what was happening with wind race to race but Harvard dropping a time that would’ve won the heavy 1V is really something. Dartmouth would’v...

Re: 2025 Season
Why are the Cornell lights out of the IRA? This is confirmed, buried in a Row2k preview: https://www.row2k.com/ira/features/2025/1977/2025-iras-how-to-watch-what-to-know/ "The Cornell entries were withdrawn by the school administration for an issue that occurred during university-sponsored tra...
Re: 25 Season
It’s just one metric covering V8 only and not program depth, so obviously not a perfect metric, but I was curious to put some numbers on this. Comparing ‘24 and ‘25 Cmax for the teams mentioned here: UCF: -30.9 -> -16.1 = 14.7 second improvement Radcliffe: -32.3 -> -19.1 = 13.2 seconds Dartmouth: -2...

Re: 2025 Season
I see that the IRA has changed qualification rules on the fly and invited every EARC team? Compare the selection process on the IRA website (https://www.irarowing.com/general-information) with the selection process on the letter on Row2k today (https://www.row2k.com/ira/2025/122ndIRAAllSelectedTeams...
Re: 25 Season
Interesting how the NCAA keeps track of Crew (men's rowing) and Lightweight Crew (lightweight men) as sports teams, but they have no record of women's lightweight rowing teams. They’re not keeping that close of track though - both counts appear wrong. The IRA recognizes 64 heavy members and 12 ligh...

Re: 2025 Season
According to Row2k, Harvard had someone from the 2V8 take ill Sunday morning. The did the bump-up shuffle and the winning 2V8, 3V8, and 4V4 were all rowing with new lineups devised that morning by the coaches around 7:30am: https://www.row2k.com/EARC/features/2025/1412/sprints-harvard-paints-quinsi...
Re: 25 Season
If MAC was a real conference of universities competing for championships in all sports that would be one thing. But the MAC conference championship for women's rowing is 50% comprised of affiliate members Delaware, High Point and Temple. Borderline sketch as an AQ. Fwiw, the Big 12 is 50% affiliate...
