US Rowing Survey

Post by lt.wolf »

Just to note, do complete the US Rowing member survey circulating via email. There are important questions in there that are significant to competition,, operations, technology, transgender policy, etc.

Link here

GB Rowing is facing significant scrutiny currently due to their messaging and rollout of policy

It might be a little long and some of the topics are better suited for focus groups but if only a small sample completes the survey then that is the voice heard by us rowing.

What they should do:

Email this survey out to every member.

What is the point of a survey hidden in a little corner, except plausible deniability.

i did not receive it.

You'd think a link when you log in would be useful too, if they really want to capture everyone.

Just learned that USRowing is now charging a $15 handling fee for each rower, in addition to the $500 organization's membership cost. We have 100 rowers and that is $1500 USRowing grifted out of the university. When asked, USRowing explained that due to Covid-19 they needed to restructure their finances. Wow.

so they cut almost $750,000 a year in coaching salaries, and are still attempting to strongarm their membership?

I wish i could say i was surprised....

34% of the budget is salaries, and 3 of the largest salaries are gone.

As of early 2021, USRowing had something like 30 full-time staff in the administration, many at the director/coordinator level. I see some titles where there is both a "Director of [x]" as well as either a "Chief [x] Officer" or a "[x] Coordinator." Just an observation.

If USRowing is really going to charge clubs a $15 handling fee for each rower I would expect that number of 70,000 individual members to suddenly drop to about 20,000 members. We will probably see a lot of organizational members just dissolve as well.

Nothing like a big tax increase actually bringing in less revenue.

In 2015, I think USRowing had 23 listed staff. The staff to member ratio is trending in an interesting direction.
