Are we implicitly or explicitly challenging the reporting system and the judicial and extrajudicial outcomes?

Why did it take so long? Why is this the net result? Is there a flaw in the system, or a flaw in the understanding of the system?

But perhaps, more to the point of the pitchfork, what is an acceptable outcome these days in Cancelvania? Drawn and quartered upon the accusation?

If law enforcement does not proceed, is that a siren call for the parent posse to assemble? Oh my, what could possibly go wrong there? Should posse participants have to submit to background checks? The sleaze could go full meta!

The best part of watching society eat itself is knowing the indigestion will be even worse.

I make no assertions on any specific case. Just observing the bloodlust spillover effect. You read about the bad cases that necessitate a reporting system. But there is an underbelly of quiet devastation that is also going on...a incompetent whispermill that tanks careers and candidates with no formal recourse against the phantoms.

And then there are those who do just enough to deserve firing, but never enough to really make the do-not-hire list. Hell, that's got to be 30%-40% of the field, depending on which way the political identity winds are blowing.

There's a difference between helicopter/entitled parenting+coaching and what happened with Conal. I know people have reported Groom up the chain since 2010 to no avail until now. OTOH, far lesser issues (arguably unworthy) have led to quiet, unaccountable material sanction from USRowing where USRowing has had any leverage.

We get false positives and false negatives, and until things get bad, we rarely get accountability or transparency.

++. The big issue here is not cancel-vania or cancel culture or throwing people to the wolves. It's attacking coverups all up and down the chain. It's not an NGO's job to cover up allegations on their golden boys - it's their job to aggressively and quickly investigate and come to a conclusion and administer any kind of employee discipline, up to and including getting fired or banned for life. And consistently they fail to do that time and time and time again.

Safesport exists because the organizations themselves couldn't be trusted to investigate these claims, or to enforce punishments, or to publicize them. Is it perfect? No. But it's certainly better than nothing.

You're missing the point about the amateur Scooby Dooers that are operating outside of USRowing and SafeSport.

There was nothing and they complained. There was USRowing and they complained. There was SafeSport and they complained.

There were definitely cases to be addressed, but there were also some unsanctioned character assassinations.
