CII dynamic or Model D on slides for personal use?
I'm looking for opinions. If you have the option to use a CII Model D on slides, or the CII dynamic, which would you choose and why? These are my only options of getting used for personal use at the moment (so unfortunately no rowperfect or Oartech ). I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Slides are better. They do require a bigger footprint but provide a much better feel than the C2 dynamic

I agree with Sean. I’ve used both and the dynamic feels heavier. It’s also more noisy because the fan is right under you, and the chain runs through a steel channel and makes a bit of a rattle as well. If you have room, go with slides.
Another plus, if you are prepping for a test or race that will be on regular static machines, you have the option to take it off slides.

also having used both, I agree with the above in that the slides are a better rowing experience. the space saving is not insigificant, though, and ultimately led to me buying a dynamic. if I had the space I’d go with sliders but didn’t feel that the dynamic was the worst compromise.
if it matters, the resale value of the dynamic seems to be terrible. while a used erg/slides could probably be had for the same or cheaper than a used dynamic, I see the dynamics on row2k all the time for <= $750 and you’d only have to deal with one transaction

Option 3: The Model T. Smaller footprint. Adjustable for sloping floors. The conversion kit fits Model C and early Model D ergs (metal foot stretchers). The Oartec DX does a pretty good job of imitating the feel of it...

Hi
Ive tried both.
I didnt like the feel of the dynamic, which to me seems to emphasise upper body strength on the draw over leg drive.
I went with sliders and a model D at home and enjoy the flow of it being more like on water work in the single.

Make sure your floor is level. I borrowed some slides to test if they would work in my 100+ year old house--they didn't. Even in our boathouse near the big doors the floor has a slight downward angle, and slides don't work there either. At least the dynamic erg has little leveling feet, but I agree that erg on slides feels more like rowing.

Coffey makes slides too, but they call 'em "Floats". They are sturdier and better made than C2 IMO, and also have a balance element to them . They also work with C2 ergs.
