Head of the River
The older I get, the better I was
Re: Head of the River
Sadly cancelled due to a brisk breeze from just the wrong direction.
Although there was a lot of comment about the cancellation being premature and the conditions being not so bad on the day, I am assured that it was the right decision and at the scheduled race time with the tide running against the wind along Corney Reach it was very rough.
As per usual some clubs (Imperial, Edinburgh Uni, Thames and Scullers) decided to hold an unofficial race and got themselves banned by the PLA for racing out of the normal channel. (Presumably because it was too rough in the middle).
In very similar conditions the following day, the Veterans Head went ahead with no bother because it was fortuitously held on the flood tide. I've never raced on the Tideway before when it felt like we had a tail wind over the whole course.
