True, not inspiring at all. Relief, yes. Celebration, not yet.
First 500 was a couple seconds slower for all crews compared to the earlier heat so maybe conditions were not fast. Still, we are going to see Germany and The Brits rowing 5:25 this weekend and that just feels like a different league at the moment from today's performance.

That is what the splits suggest, but this is the final we're talking about. There is no reason for them to hold back and just defend their lead. They probably could have found more if it was a tight race, but I'll bet that they were going as hard as they could considering the circumstances.

Rule regarding composition of crews qualifying at Qualification Regattas:
The rule regarding the composition of crews that qualified at one of the
Qualification Regattas states that rowers qualifying in a certain event at one of the
three Continental Qualification Regattas or the Final Qualification Regatta in
Lucerne must participate in that event (“mandatory event”) if they participate at the
Olympic Games. These rowers may also participate in another event in which their
NOC has qualified provided that they participate in the mandatory event.

He could do it and shatter someone's dreams. He already stated in an interview that the lineup could change. All the college websites are blowing up on row2k that their alums are going to the Olympics. Not so fast.
That being said Mike has never f'ed with the 8, only the 4s, when it come to putting in his favorites (ie brother). So only having him coach the 8 effectively eliminates that possibility. Sorry Paul, wait until 2016.
