If you look at the final time - 7:33 and change in a two-boat final... Might have been just a wee bit windy.
(only a minute slower than Drysdale's world's fastest time)...

Windy conditions would favor the more seasoned sculler (Drysdale), no?

Windy conditions would favor the seasoned vet if the water was trash. In a headwind I'll take the guy who is a monster erg with elite rowing experience (albeit in sweep rowing). Murray is strong as hell and a tremendous athlete (not that Mahe is some slouch). Mahe has made a point of peaking less frequently than he has in the past. If this race happened the month before worlds, I'd expect a major switch in position.
