BTW.

The LW2x that actually won NSR2, and is racing in Munich, just won thier heat heet and are straight to the A/B semi.

But this thread does more than that. It highlights the mess that is US rowing selection.

Sure Kristin and Julie won and like last year they aim to get selected racing at a world cup the results of which will be in no way similar to Bled. Fact. Just like last year.

Are K+J fastest boat? We don't know. Does the world end for A+U absolutely not. If they race two world cups (lucern being almost as good as worlds) and go to the worlds in a focused 4x then they are no worse off given that everyone is back to square one come next Spring.

Really, the boat that goes this year should be building for next year. But ihistory clearly dictates that the pre Olympic year boat very rarely if ever resembles the Olympic year boat.

I bet that should K+J come 4th or better in Munich, that U+A won't lose a seconds sleep. I know I wouldn't, unless K+J fail to qualify the boat. Then it gets messy.

3rd by the USA 2x, i assume that means at least for 2011 the U+A 2x is dead?

For Bled? Yes....I expect you will see them somewhere however.

Typical world cup 1.

GB A beats GB B, the Greeks send their C crew, No Canadians, no Germans, no Aussies, no Kiwi's

European crews were still doing steady state last week. GB does well because they do intensive early season trials as do USA.

And the USA bases its selection on that race? Really?

Ask yourself a question. Are you even remotely sure that you have the fastest boat possible for the World Champs?

Hey another question then. USA M2X? They were 5th but there were two Germans ahead of them. So in terms of nations they are 4th?? Selected? or not?

For this year it is buried, now Julie and Kristen can focus for Worlds.

Quad camp or the single. My own feeling is Ursula should pop in the single put her head down and go for trials. It will be good for her and less on others around her.

Smiles and Ursula showdown at trials , now the build up!

Nope...they should continue building experience in the 2x at world cups on the assumption that they win trials next year. then they 4x at worlds.

We have a selected boat. We have a LW2x. End of discussion. Ursula and whoever else can either go for a different boat, or quit. There is no spot on the US team for them in the 2x this year.

I think Coach Terhaar should just take over the training and selection for this boat class. Like Spracklen did in Canada. Let the professionals do their jobs. Lay down the law and put an end to the embarrassment that all of this has brought, and continues to bring, to rowing in the United States.

It's time for iron-fisted leadership and training camp selection. If you don't like the rules, don't play the game.

It has been said more than a few times on these boards that Terhaar is not interest in the lightweight women.

And with regard to giving the USRowing "professional" carte blanche with regard to selection, well in this case the "professional" would have been John Parker, who has provided more embarrassment to himself and USRowing than the process of selection.

Terhaah makes the big boat selection process look good because he is bloody good. On the men's side things are not much better than the l/w women's or men's double. At the end of the day it all comes down to getting the right people together and on the same page.

You have a selected boat for the world champs. It doesn't stop another boat going to the world cup later 2 or 3 to get top racing and raising the standard of those in contention for next year. If I could race lucerne in particular in the 2x and then go to worlds in the 4x, I'm not sure I'd worry too much.

As regards the rest of your comment. Spot on. IF Nichols and Hedstrom qualify, and that's no easy task when cad aussy Greece A, Germany NZ China A, and a few others turn up at worlds,) Then that guaranteed Olympic slot becomes a huge prize and it should be made a camp boat. A fit Sarbanis, goldsack? What a group that would be.

But you know it won't happen.

And one reason it won't happen is because USRowing doesn't have the funds to support this event professionally. If you pay peanuts you get monkeys and we've already seen how that has worked out.

This isn't Britain or China or Australia where the national teams are nationalized with public funding.

How many boats qualify in this event from Worlds?

Thanks for saving me the trouble of trying to look it up!

Eight

Making that B final a real bitch fight.

But don't start looking at last years form. A lot of countries will have stepped up their game this year for that very reason.

And given last year USA won WC1 by some margin, don't look at WC1 as any sort of pointer as regards World Champs speed.

Lucerne will give a better perspective.
