On a related note, there have been more and more discussions at the higher levels about the possibility of athletes doubling up for the eights by 2032 or even worse the potential removal of eights from the program or in a subsequent cycle.

I believe it is safe but World Rowing will continue to adapt to what IOC want. There are too many rowers in the Games currently, the venue is too expensive and the races are too long.
These will change in the coming Olympics IMO - so although I believe rowing shall be safe - I don't see that it will the same sport we recognise now.
