Some National Rowing Foundation movement

Post by fullmetal »

So this is interesting.

Back in 2013, Mara Keggi Ford was named an associate director at the NRF (after part-time development work starting in 2009).

When Charlie Hamlin stepped down in January 2018, Mara was made Acting Executive Director.

In August of 2018, she was made Executive Director.

About five months later on January 23, the NRF announced six new additions to its board of directors and three departures (maintaining a total headcount of 40).

Two days later on January 25, the NRF announced that: "Executive Director Mara Keggi Ford will step down, effective February 1. Associate Director Tracy Brown will serve as Interim Executive Director after her departure."

I don't think six new folks out of 40 would really swing the board's opinion one way or the other, but stepping down five months after being named Executive Director (a full year after assuming the position) seems a little short. Charlie Hamlin served four years before stepping down, though that was his total time there as he stepped directly into the position. Mara's been working at the NRF for about six years now, but why step down just after being named Exec Dir? Or did the board decide that she wasn't the one to lead the NRF through the Tokyo Games? (July 24th, 2020 seems awfully close now. Less than 18 months out...)

That is a lot of directors for a board. Then there are the trustees as well. Not sure what the difference is. But that is a lot of folks, too many of whom likely are not making significant annual gifts.

The NRF is a Small shop staff wise. Interesting that the ED position has turned over so many times since Hart passed away. If the NRF was hitting its fundraising goals I doubt the ED position would see so much turnover.

If funding is the foundation of the national team operations, then I suppose we might be a little worried going into the Tokyo Games.
