Looking for LWT 2010 summer rowing programs

Postby Daemana on Sun Feb 21, 2010 3:05 pm

I'm a sophomore in college with a sub 640 2k curious on what summer programs are out there on the east coast to row at. I only took a gander at a few programs like NYAC, GMS and Malta i prefer sculling but ill do sweep too. Not really looking for any u23 ordeal this year mainly just a club that does club nationals and maybe a few other regattas. Anyone know of anything? Thanks.

Riverside had something going for them last summer with a lightweight camp going on for the NE region, they are located right next to the BU bridge on the Charles in Boston and have quite good lightweights.

If you are in CT, stop by Maritime Rowing Club in Norwalk. There is normally a good group of college rowers in the summer.

At club nats last year they...

won the intermediate (college kids) quad at club nationals
http://www.racetrak.com/central/public/ ... hoice=1756

won the senior (open) quad with that same boat
http://www.racetrak.com/central/public/ ... hoice=1769

4th in the intermediate double
http://www.racetrak.com/central/public/ ... hoice=1754

Check it out! http://maritimerowing.net/

Im interested in trying out for a light U-23 boat for trials. I know RBC had a light u-23 program last year, will they be doing something similar this year. I dont see anything on the site about it. Who could I contact?

University of Wisconsin will host a USRowing Development Camp for lightweight women. Emphasis will be on sculling. Ideal candidates will be 7:40 or faster for 2000m, 24:12 or faster for 6000m.
The camp will race at U23 trials, Club Nationals, and possibly at Canadian Henley.
Last year members of this camp won four gold, two silver and four bronze medals at Club Nationals. Several of these rowers had no prior sculling experience.
Please contact Erik Miller at em3@athletics.wisc.edu for more information.

You can go to West Side in Buffalo - it's cheap to live and row. They got 3rd at Henley in the 8 and won few golds at club nationals last year.

Sorry for bringing up a dead post...I didn't want to clutter the forum with a new one. How are programs for lightweight men in the summer at NYAC? Was thinking about applying but my score is 1 second above their criteria of 640 or lower. However we havent 2k test on the ergs this spring semester, we train through every week. Would they accept perhaps erg workouts stats? like 4x1k times, 8x500 times, 4x2ktimes ect?

to my understand theres an open mens team at RBC that only takes a few applicants in the summer, and there's a high performance lightweight group for guys below 6:25. I don't see anything for lightweight men in that 640-630 category. Unless theres something i'm missing thats not stated on the RBC website. Please enlighten me wolf if I'm mistaken!!

The US Rowing U23 Lightweight Sweep Development Camp is out of Penn AC this summer. Info can be found at: http://www.pennac.org/
I believe the 2k cut-off is 6:30.

NYAC lightweight cutoff starts in the 640's...and you will have the opportunity to scull and sweep
