Yes. His plan is to try to qualify for the open 1x in Lucerne in May.

Whoa. 40lbs lighter, and pulling a 5:57? I bet he makes the A finals in '12.

I doubt he'll qualify, if he does he won't make the A final....he'll simply be outgunned by the big boys. Put it this way,Purchase is a much better sculler than Stephensen and he would struggle to make the A final of the GB heavyweight trials, let alone an Olympic final.

I think you're severely under estimating how much his speed has improved over the last year. I also don't think Purchase would have any trouble making GB heavy 1x finals - unless you think there are a 4-5 guys in GB who can get within 10-12 seconds of the heavy 1x world's best time...?

And since when are they all capable of going sub-6:50 in singles?

Four of these guys are in the 4x that beat the USA by about 1 second to win the B final in Bled. Care to guess how many guys in that USA 4x have ever gone sub-6:50 or even sub-7:00 in singles?

Purchase won in Eton (2006) in 6:47 three races before Drysdale won in 6:35 (Campbell 6th / 6:49). Now, there's some potential for conditions to change there, but as far as I know both were similar tailwinds and similar chop. I'm not even suggesting that Purchase is faster than Campbell 1 vs 1, just that it's ludicrous that you think there are 6 other scullers from GB in that 12 second span between Purchase and Drysdale's winning speeds.

I'm not sure he could have looked more in control after that piece. He barely even gasps for air. pretty remarkable.

A number of other guys posted some big scores too:

Steffen D. 6:03.1
Mads R. 6:09.9
Morten J. 6:11.2
Eskild E. 6:11.8

Impressive.
