The planes teach you how to accelerate quickly, and the hippies don't swim out that from the shore - they get tired because that would require work.

Ursula does not like the Concept 2
World Rowing magazine interviewed her.

What we found interesting was what they left out of the text,

World Rowing: Do you use the ergo much in training?
Ursula Grobler: I have only rowed six times on the Concept2 erg since September. [because I only train on the Rowperfect and in the boat].

World Rowing: What did you feel like at the endof the race?

Ursula Grobler: I was happy it was over. This erg hurts my ribs and messes up my timing at the catch and my coordination on the water.[because a C2 is not a rowing simulator it disrupts my technique]

World Rowing: I understand that you are trying for the US team. Is that avenue now open to you?
Ursula Grobler: I have my citizenship papers in process. I'm excited to have the support of the USRowing coaches. My coach will build our Olympic crew from Seattle, from his basement with his own system. [Which involves detailed technique coaching and training on linked Rowperfects and force curve analysis to align the two athletes' power]

Congratuations to both Ursula and Carlos.

What was the reason she could not row for South Africa again? Was it actually a color/race issue?

I await her results of the first NSR. While she opts for the open field, hopefully the lightweight women's field will follow the process of the Speed Order and the building of a lightweight women’s double for NSR 2.

On a totally unrelated note, I'm glad someone's finally building a boathouse of sorts on Lake Samish - every time I've gone up to canada for a race, and drive by that lake, I always think the same thing - "I gotta get up here and row on that".

I think the sentences within the bracket were added by Rowperfect web site.

btw, I would love to read from all of you if a chinese suddenly came out of nowhere to break the WR on the erg...

Pierre,
You're correct. Everybody would jump up and say it is very suspicious that a totally new, unknown person would come out of nowhere and break the world record. She would be accused of cheating/doping.
At the very least she and Carlos are shameless self-promoters.

I dont feel anyone accused her of "doping" , you can easily track her career. She has had some fast times and decent results.

Then again she is just going into the USADA testing pool now.

Now I know I have been accused of being "too nice" on many more than 1 occasion over the course of my lifetime (& to be perfectly honest I take a great deal of pride in it), but I am an optimist at heart. As a result, I would like to believe that this accomplishment resulted from a good diet,, proper hydration, a utilization of heathy & legal nutritional supplements, a solid work ethic, well & some good genes. Keep in mind, ursula & lisa both have a lot in common as they both picked up the sport much later in life with amazing aerobic fitness minus all of the physical & psychological baggage that many of us carry after several years of erg testing. Don't. Forget Lisa was 36 when she set her record 10 yrs ago. Anyway, while I found it quite intimidating, I also found it quite inspiring. Chances are this is closer to home for me than a great deal of you. Faith is a very beautiful & powerful thing.

That is so New Jersey!

Although it's a world record, I don't find that number particularly amazing. The fact that it stood for so long speaks for itself. And yes, rowing is not rocket science and just because some struggle to row their way out of a paper-bag doesn't change that. However, what it takes in order to be successful internationally and win medals at Olys etc I would agree with what Stewie pointed out but that's not the point here. And the results remain to be seen. Knowing Carlos, I will not be surprised. Look out for the Euro Triangle Costa Mesa - Seattle and some spot on the E.C. :D :D :D
