New Cox Box

Postby NoNameBoat on Wed Mar 11, 2009 6:48 pm

Hey All,

So NK is finally coming out with a new/updated cox box! I know they have already sent out a few for test runs with their Spring Training trial. Were any of you lucky enough to have one of the first 50? I would love to know what you have to say about it!!! I really want one of my own but I am so used to the original, I have some qualms. Any and all feedback would be AMAZING!

its really awesome! no new features but its much lighter, the mics are better, and everything seems to be more efficient (ie. removable batteries)

I have a new box. I've actually had it since the fall and was one of the first to test it (helps to know the NK team :) ) and help work out any kinks for you kids. I love the bigger display and the replacement of that toggle switch for easy to use buttons. I'm taking it with me to race in Amsterdam this weekend.

Yeah,

The buttons were what worried me the most. Are they hard to press/require extra reach to press/easy to navigate? I kinda liked the toggle, it was quick and simple easy to do in a moments notice from a coach. I am excited about the new headset connection (less prone to break) and I like that the battery can be replaced (for those of us who tend to improperly charge our boxes . . .). I wish there were more color options though!

Thanks for the reviews any other comments to add?

Great, I don't need to take my bifocals with me on board.

If it wasn't painfully difficult, you didn't do it right.

The buttons aren't too hard to reach- they're all together at the top of the box. see here http://www.nielsenkellerman.com/rowing/coxbox_new.html. The stop/ start button is right in the center of the three so it's an easy target. To clear, you press the right button and hold- the display will count down 3, 2, 1 and the zero out. There is also a battery level indicator that shows you how charged your battery is (like on your ipod) which is nice so that you know if you need to throw a new one in before you have time to charge it.

I had it in Amsterdam with me when I was racing 2 weekends ago and it worked great.

Weight savings would be nice...I was okay with the toggle. What I'd really like is the ability to save more than one "piece" in memory and not have that wiped away by the start of another piece (by signaling from the stroke magnet). That ability would probably preclude keeping the toggle, but as long as the replacement inputs are intuitive and water/fool-proof...sure.
