Think of the over the head crab that the female rower pulled at IRA a couple month ago, how cool would that have been if we had a different angle more close up to pick up the drama that occurred in those 3 seconds!!!!

If you liked that you should also like this:

This footage is from my 8+ racing at the Hammersmith Head (UK) which is a race on the Championship course (or boat race course if you prefer) from Chiswick to Hammersmith bridge, the river is wide but as any follower of the boat race knows the fastest stream is a very narrow strip of water. Race rules were overtaking crews had to go around crews (rightly or wrongly) so the race was an interesting battle all the way down the course which was captured really well on the camera. Coming into the final bend the cox of the overtaking crew started to push his crew across to try and force us out of the stream which our cox was having none of and resulted in this:

So the gopro would be better than the contour due to the wider angle lens?

How would one rigger mount these? Any imbalance issues?

Well ive not tried it yet but you can buy a mount from New wave
http://www.newwave.de/advanced_search_r ... 368d7418b0
(its shown in this picture, and the mount can be bought for £15 on its own I believe)

And this video has a couple of shotstaken using the mount
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ic6-9tjp_zk

Although I am tempted to try and make one myself as it'd be good to get a bit further away from the boat, no-one seems to have had balance problems who i have spoken to so far!

The wide angle lens makes it easier to mount (as you can fit more into shot when the camera is closer) but then the wide angle does give the image some distortion so its a balance of which you prefer to be honest! If mounting in the empacher slot the COntourHD is wide enough to get sculling blades in at least

Last sundays 2x1500m pieces on the river

(GoPro mounted in the empacher number slot)

Very cool. How did you get the stroke coach into the screen?

Thats done using an iPhone running the NK Speedcoach application (collecting the strokecoach data and location data) and using a piece of PC software called Dashware to sync the data and the video, i outlined how i did it on my blog here

Very nice! I will have to try to do this sometime soon. A great, innovative way to increase the value of both devices!

Let's figure out a good rigger mount to get a great vier for technical rowing analysis maybe combined with a stern mount view?

Anyone have suggestions?

As stated earlier, a 4' x 1" x 1/16" aluminum tube attached to the end of a rigger works very well. Search youtube,,,onexsculler for a couple of videos.
I almost always win when all of the guys who are faster than I am don't show up.

Pentax's new waterproof model and waterproof, wireless remote control are model numbers WG-1 for the camera, replacing the W90, and the remote's model # is: O-RC1

Yep, that's the one. Balance? When the backs of your blades are skipping across the water on the recovery, as mime usually are, balance is no problem. Actually the entire mount, including the camera doesn't weigh very much, i.e. camera = 5 .oz and a couple of ounces for the aluminum tube. You could mount one on the other side to balance it out if you wanted to. One of the other videos at onexsculler shows me in my boat before I got the waterproof Pentax W90 and remote control but it gives you a good idea of the view you get at the catch and release from 4' off the rigger end.

Had subscribed to that channel! Taken using a GoPro headmount I assume (you have to be pretty good to get away with the redicule of wearing that out sculling! :D )

You could get a pair of these to be a little more discreet
