Re: Speed 5 with Carlos Dinares
Carlos is the the most enthusiastic coach I have ever had, and he pushes his rowers as hard (probably harder) than any coach I have ever had. Really liked his bit on his blog about about how much he hates the C2 erg too. Reminds me of when Ursula broke the LW record and when asked how much she train...

Re: IRA Discussion (changed from Pre)
The Washington gruntie 8 (or frosh 8) only has one olympian in it (same as the V8). The stroke rowed and won at U23's, but that could be said for a bunch of people in many boats at the IRA. And neither German is in their "mid-twenties" as Row2k reported. Having two accomplished rowers does...

Re: U. Washington Going O/S, Again?
Man, you got it bad. You need racing season and you need it badly. Close to 130 posts on this thread, no one had mentioned Cal, and you found a way to work that in. Its March. The Classic is right around the corner. If your racing Jones has got you going already I am worried you're not going to mak...

Re: U. Washington Going O/S, Again?
Washington has raced that way the last few years. That really isnt right at all. In 2007 Washington relied very heavily on their sprint in the last 500 to win. You can watch all the captured speed races to see what I am talking about. For example: Cal Duel, up by four seats under the montlake bridg...

Re: U. Washington Going O/S, Again?
2 1/2 lengths of open water? Isn't that about how far Cal was back in third place at the IRA last year? Sorry, couldn't help myself...

Re: U. Washington Going O/S, Again?
OK, if there is no rules violation taking place because there is a "loophole", then there is no reason to complain. Attacking the entire UW institution for allowing athletes to get one credit for "studying" while they take a trip just doesn't seem right. If UW can get away with i...

Re: ??? New National Team Head Coach ????
DISCLAIMER: This is not on topic at all, I just wanted to respond to one point made. I don't know what fixed assets USRowing has there but since they've been training there for a while its where the majority of the National Team members live right? You'd need a pretty compelling reason to tell them ...

Re: New Rowing NGB
And to answer the question (that we are apparently trying to get away from), the reason more exceptional athletes are not sculling is that there is a higher opportunity to medal at worlds and the olympics in sweep boats. Some of the scullers were guys that had no luck on the sweep side. I could name...

Re: New Rowing NGB
Everyone knows that Dave Simon from Brown went 5:40 at Crash B's. In 2000. Come on now.

Re: New Rowing NGB
There seems to be an idea that there is a big population of rowers in this country that are great technicians yet get overlooked for national team opportunites because of their poor erg scores. This really doesn't make any sense. Call me naive, but aren't their multiple opportunities for these peopl...

Re: New Rowing NGB
There seems to be two contending points here. One is that the US focuses too much on big ergs and they are missing out on technically sound athletes. But, then you say that everyone (being other countries) is strong. So therefore, the US HAS to focus on the big ergs to allow people to make it to the...

Re: From the desk of Dan Beery
I am not sure when this email first started making its rounds, but it has apparently circled the world a couple of times, since it was forwarded to me from Australia by a coach I have never met. I do hope there is no backlash directed towards Dan. He has made it clear that he had no intention of mak...

Andrew has a valid point at this time in the selection procedures. While the rules say that a selection committee will have to give the final say on the lineups, in reality selection and boat naming is over when Mike Teti writes down who he wants in each boat. If you do not believe this is true, the...
