Re: Spring 2024

If I was Cal I'd be rowing even lineups Good lord...you can do that 6 days a week for months. Sometimes I just don't understand where some of you are coming from. This squad in particular is in a massive rebuild (or reload) and this is the perfect opportunity to see who has what and responds to any...

Re: Spring 2024

Where is the drop off in Sprints performance. The 1-6-7 heat is rough. the 2-5-8 and the 3-4-9; don't they usually run true to form? I just hate hate hate the idea that racing is often viewed as an opportunity to screw up rather than an opportunity to race and get faster and develop. These programs ...

Re: Spring 2024

I guess I don't understand why you can't have a cup race (dual) in its usual place (thereabouts) in the schedule in addition to participating in a 6-lane opening season race. (Harvard-Brown is not happening as a dual race) Confirmed by an "official" schedule from Brown.

Re: US Squad and Racing

I think we all need to view CRC just like Texas, Penn AC, Arion, Green Mountain and Boston. It is a training center. It is there to develop National Team athletes. Teti has shown, time and time again, that he is very good at developing talent. Look no further than the incredible improvement in numbe...

Re: The Boys in the Boat Movie

Two points: The '36 win was the 5th gold in a row for the USA 8, a streak which continued on in 1948, 52, 56, followed by a win again in 64. So it was hardly from out of nowhere historically speaking. Top Gun: saw a lengthy interview conducted by SEAL Jocko Willink with Dave Berke, highly decorated ...

Re: Olympics 2024

I suspect there are plans in the works for two more altitude camps...and it would likely before during WC "season" and the appropriate time prior to OG. (up for 18 days, down 13 days prior or thereabouts). It would be for the qualified and selected boats, the others have a different agenda...

Re: Fall 2023 / Spring 2024

I think there are multiple issues around fall racing. First and foremost, the struggle with "should I go through a selection process or not " which could also be viewed as "how important is fall racing" So, yes, this all factors into the mental health of the athletes who may feel...

Good lord. Harvard was the original organizer of this scrimmage. It was all run out of Newell as a friendly event. This is silly

Re: US Squad and Racing

I'm not sure there is one straight formula that you can use every year. A good system should be able to pivot as needed based on which boats are qualified/not qualified. Small boat Trials > Selection Camp > Large boat Trials would work for the men this year. But what if in 2028 we are looking at a ...

Re: US Squad and Racing

All I'm saying here is that those qualified boats who are trails events should be trialed PRIOR to any selection camps. That way we can be pretty sure that the best athletes were/are given the best chance to race in Paris. Remove the ambiguity. I don't know, perhaps it's really only an issue for the...

Re: US Squad and Racing

Well, to be fair, Rusher/Rodriguez were both at the selection camp for the 8. That camp finished July 17 and the trials were the 27th. For this year, I'm pointing out that the qualified boats should be a priority. The qualified boats that "need" trials should run before any trails for non-...

Why aren't the W1x, W2- and M2- trialed prior to selection camp?

Re: The sun has set on the GB lightweight empire...

Want to pay for yourself to enter an event your NGB is ignoring? You should be allowed, and the NGB have no say. This. If a national federation is paying for it, let them run camps, fund however they wish (athletes/clubs/coaches), impose time standards, prioritize crews, establish training centers,...

Re: US Squad and Racing

I believe the W2x was a camp selected boat this year as well. One thing I would look for is for USR to maybe bring in the W2- and/or M2x to camp as well depending on how they do at Worlds. The wording in the procedures is a bit noncommittal. Yes and no on the W2x. The combination that won NSR (Wagn...
