Re: Lucerne World Cup
Men's double seems to have all the big guns in small field. That will be nuts. So many debuts and races to look forward to, Lucerne in the Olympic year is always exciting.

Re: Olympics 2024
I agree with Fullsend here. This season, we have only seen Austria and Italy perform from the four boats looking to qualify. Italy has shown decent but far from strong speed, and Austria has shown low speed. We know the USA finished in the A final of the last worlds while Italy was in the B final, a...

Re: World Cup 1
I think what he was saying wasn't that the Jensen profile is different for women. Simply that men are more naturally predisposed towards the peak power side, and women are more predisposed to the aerobic side. So to end up at Jensen/optimal, men's training should favor more endurance work and women...

Re: 2024 Boat Race
This is a real changing of the guard, Bowden is almost synonymous with OUBC, certainly in my living memory he is. He pushed the boat race forward on multiple fronts. I think the 2013-2015 boats represent him at the height of his powers; crews rowing a single strong stroke, with great physiology, and...

Re: World Cup 1
W4- The Aussie training is working wonders for the GB women. Punchy now, with power. I maintain that because women have larger aerobic slant in their physiology than men, women need more of that middle to high intensity in their training and too much zone 2/endurance, doesn't develop their physiolo...

Re: World Cup 1
W2-, amazing to me Fie Udby Erichsen is still rowing! And medaling. I remember her silver in 2012. Credit to her and the Danish system. M2- I thought GB looked good, nothing incredibly dynamic. The Swiss always gather speed in the last 750. You have to think their erg average is about 8 seconds off ...

Can someone link me some relevant Ange Postecoglu reading material? Not on my radar.

Re: 2024 Boat Race
Excellent piece by Cath Bishop on the approach by the Cambridge women’s team and how getting away from the macho “win at all costs” mentality improved their performance https://www.theguardian.com/sport/blog/2024/apr/03/cambridge-women-boat-race-culture-sport-cath-bishop-rowing I always like hearin...

Re: World Cup 1
Aus is sending their scull but not sweep men? I assume the Aus M4- is their U23. Massive Italian squad, multiple boats in multiple events, perhaps part of selection. Van Dorp in the single will be the person to watch in that field, he's the only engine comparable to Zeidler. Let's see if Borch has r...

Re: 2024 Boat Race
Whatever competitive advantage Bowden brought seems to be gone. To my eyes they're rowing the same way -- a utilitarian and effective stroke, but a bit brutal, I understand them to be basically training the same way, and they race the same way. 10-15yrs ago that meant they nearly won every year. Now...

Re: US Squad and Racing
Huh, a head coach of one of America's best collegiate rowing programs is also going to coach the Olympic men's +8? What happened to Gladstone? Teti is around. Is Callahan going to write their training program, too? Did he run the selection?

Re: 2024 Boat Race
Kudos to the team behind this. I've always found the boat race campaigns interesting, along with the different personalities of the coaches and the speedbumps along the way. Great content and hopefully well received!

Re: Olympics 2024
Quick fact check of my claims: it looks like Hill only stroked the eight once last quadrennial, back in 2017 in Lucerne, where they finished .5 off the Germans for second place. So it was a while ago. I believe they also won Henley in 2018 but I can't find the crew list. We have seen fast Aussie eig...

Re: Olympics 2024
Interesting line-ups. If Hill and Hamilton are the top pair, as flat drive said, that bodes well for the four. Could be that each was seat raced out of the eight though. If memory serves, Hill has stroked a number of eights to golds or victories ahead of GB in the previous quadrennial before moving ...

Re: Olympics 2024
Excellent. I see they were 2 seconds off them. Where was the other half of the four, though? I would be curious to see how they stacked up against Wilson and Williamson now. Good point re the USA, they did very well in the pair at worlds. Does anyone know if Gladstone is back with the eight or wheth...
