Re: Rowing benefactor Sean Colgan explains why he no longer supports US ROWING
Looks like an expensive report. Who paid for it? Seems the money would be better spent on coaching programs designed to get more women in coaching roles, especially head coaching positions or funding women’s rowing programs or the women’s national team.

Re: US Squad and Racing
Rowingnews or Row2k maybe should give Teti a media pass and a camera to put around his neck....
It will be embarrasing when athletes give a CRC coach the order of IKKOS medal and there has to be some publicity around that....

Re: Where do you zero your pitch guage?
To adjust/measure pitch properly, the whole boat should be level in that the gunwales are level measured bow to stern (can be adjusted by moving slings bow to stern because the boat narrows towards the ends or by adding towels between sling and boat). And then a spirit level across the deck (or a lo...

Re: US Squad and Racing
OK this is a massive change. The Men's 8+ NO LONGER goes to Olympic Trials but is selected in the selection camp and it is the only non qualified boat already determined to be FULLY FUNDED. HAHA is this really the extent (and expense) that USRowing will now go to to ensure Mike Teti is not named as...

Re: US Squad and Racing
Trial entries are outside of the Selection Camp; Winter Speed Order is not required. What Coach worth their salt would sign on with USRowing to Coach the M8+ under the trial format? You can put your own interpretation on it. And heck you may even be right. But that is not what the selection procedu...

Re: USA Lightweight Women Continuing into 2024
Not so sure about that. Vitas lost to Reckford in Boston. These 'lightweights' might be getting significantly faster with a few extra pounds on them. Racing a 4600m course with bridges and turns has very little direct correlation with a 2k dead straight. It is like saying Usain Bolt lost the 800m s...

Re: US Squad and Racing
With the 8 now open to trials, maybe the US collegiate system will take notice and produce their best 8+ of US guys and fill it with any currently training alums to sub for internationals. Boys in the Boat reboot anyone? Seems like UW started that already with the tribute crew? Also, if any person t...
Is it possible for three crews from one federation (let’s say W4x, M8+ and M2x) to qualify through FOQR? Sure, if they get more than five months to train as a solidified crew together...
The...

Re: US Squad and Racing
Women's Senior Sweep Camp: most of the big ergs aren't getting seat-raced. Maybe Josy preaching "blendability and pushing the rate" along with "rowing well" for selection isn't the truth and we are back into more of the same with the Terhaar erg era. Yea, that Terhaar erg era wa...

Re: US Squad and Racing
For me it isn't a 1750m v 2000m issue. The issue is we have a novels worth of data that says Sescher/Reckford are good enough. They were as close to the WBT holders as anybody can possibly be at World Cup 2. Other boats hit their finishing standard to not be re-selected, but the WL2x at 0.08 second...

Re: US Squad and Racing
It’s not that the Ted Stevens act precludes time standards it’s that it’s not worth the lawsuit. If people want to pay to get their asses kicked so be it. Cheaper to have them pay USRowing than for USRowing to have to pay their lawyers. Make the slow ones pay more and if they perform, refund as a p...

Re: US Squad and Racing
Isn't that like 20 years ago now? I have no direct experiences with Gladstone, but is there a significant difference in recruiting and coaching Yale (especially those 18-20 crews) and USNT? Convince the top young people to go with you, form a top crew. I get when people say he had more talent than ...

Re: US Squad and Racing
Agreed. The eight would be the boat to go with, IMO. Weren't there rumours of Gladstone stepping in and coaching one? You sure we want Gladstone coaching the eight a la the 1971 world championships?? Gladstone is a great figurehead for a big program, but I am not sure that translates to elite resul...
